Common Residential Code violations

Weeds and Overgrowth

Grass, weeds, vines, palmetto scrub, or other noxious growth must be kept at less than 12 inches inheight. This includes all portions of an owner’s property, including along fences and poles, as well at city right-of-ways and easements.

Outdoor Storage

Outdoor storage of household appliances, auto parts, indoor furniture and building materials is not permitted. Grills, lawn furniture, hoses, garden tools and outdoor play equipment are allowed outdoors, so long as they are sanitary and functional.

Motor Vehicles

Vehicles must be licensed and operable and parked on a driveway or where a driveway would normally exist. Only vehicle maintenance may be performed and no major disassembly is allowed except inside an appropriate building.

 

Boats and Recreational Vehicles

Boats and recreational vehicles may only be stored on a paved driveway or within the side yard or rear yard, not less than 5 feet from the property line.

Trucks, Trailers and Wagons

Trucks, trailers and wagons for non-recreational use may not be parked overnight except in an enclosed garage.

Accessory Structures

shedAll accessory structures, including sheds, carports and other secondary buildings, must comply with the standards of the Florida Building Code. Prefab carports must come with a Florida Product Approval Number and be permitted by the Building Department. No accessory structures may be placed between the principle structure and the road.
