The Bartow Police Department’s Crime Scene & Property/Evidence Section is responsible for collecting and storing property and evidence until the time is appropriate for the disposition of the property. Often the property it returned to the rightful owner, or in some cases the property is donated or destroyed.

Bartow Police Crime Scene Technicians, Kristina Gadd and Savannah Puls will research the disposition of cases, following up with the investigating officer and/or the State Attorney for permission to dispose of the property.

Property is stored until the appropriate disposition of property, or in compliance with a court order, released to its rightful owner, or in certain cases the property is destroyed or donated.

Here are some commonly asked questions regarding property and how to get it back:

WHERE DO I PICK UP MY PROPERTY?

  • At the Bartow Police Department lobby, 450 N. Broadway Ave.

 WHEN CAN I PICK UP MY PROPERTY?

  • Please call and make an appointment with the Crime Scene Technicians by calling (863) 534-5034. You may pick up your property Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, or Tuesday and Thursday 5:30 AM to 2:30 PM.

 WHAT SHOULD I BRING WITH ME TO PICK UP MY PROPERTY?

  • You must have a Bartow Police Department case number, and
  • A Picture Identification card, for example (state driver license, state I.D. card, passport or US armed forces I.D. Card).

MAY A FRIEND OR RELATIVE PICK UP MY PROPERTY FOR ME?

  • Yes, however they must have a notarized letter of Power of Attorney authorizing them to pick up your property and/or a court order. The Court Order should indicate the Power of Attorney’s name.

HOW LONG MUST I WAIT BEFORE I AM ABLE TO PICK UP MY PROPERTY?

  • Property must be claimed within sixty (60) days following the completion of your case. 

 WHERE DO I OBTAIN A COURT ORDER?

  • You must file a “Motion for the Return of Property” through the Clerk of the Court.
