What is Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)?
Hazardous waste is anything that is corrosive, toxic, reactive, or explosive when mixed with other chemicals. Examples :
• In the house: Insecticides, furniture polish and metal polish with solvent, batteries:Ni-Cd, Lithium, zinc air, and rechargeable batteries.
• In the garage or shed: Car fluids, motor oils, batteries, fuels, kerosene, tires, and paint.
Not Hazardous: AAA, AA, C, D, 6-volt, and 9-volt batteries: Since 1993, battery manufacturer
For immediate disposal: HHW is accepted at the Polk County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility, 10 Environmental Loop South, Winter Haven, FL 33880, off Winter Lake Rd. For directions call Polk County Waste and Recycling at 863-284-4319.

Where: The home side parking lot at Bartow High School Footbal Field.
Items accepted: Tires (limited amount- see flyer), computers, car batteries, paint, motor oil, etc. Please email us at solidwaste@cityofbartow.net to request an updated list.
